Completed basing the old school Ultramarines

Finished it up today and even tossed in my Techmarine

Nearly completed arm of my Epistolary

Painting an ork

I'm helping Cat paint her boyz.  This is the first one I've done in a long while.

Meteor Progress

I thickened up the lines in the cracks a bit and added the goblin green to the built up ooze around the edges. Tomorrow I add the yellow. I'll have to wait until after pay day to get the yellow static grass I want to use round the edges.

More terrain work

So now that this dried overnight, I added a thinner lighter green (goblin green) strip to the thicker dark green.  When that is dried, I will add an even thinner yellow line.  After that will come some blended flocking or static grass.

Here's a closer look along with a Librarian Epistolary in termie armour  found while going through my stuff.  Found my new HQ!

Basing my Ultramarines 2

So everything dried nice overnight...nice and dark so some dry brushing was in order. I used a dark grey and did a heavy drybrush followed by a light brush with a lighter shade.

All drybrushed

Next I add a drop of glue.  I use the junk brush to spread it out fairly thin.

Note the tray I use to catch excess flock

Next up I pile on the flock.  I used turf green because it's what I have on hand.  Some of the other minis in my army will get a static gras instead.  I might also use a chestnut wash instead of a black.  Once the flock is piled on, I use a flat stick to tamp it down.   Then I tap the excess off.

Assembly lining the process speeds it up quite a bit.

Finished!

Radio show tomorrow

I will be on Shoutcast Radio tomorrow 11 AM to 2 PM PST. Link on the right side of my blog.

Terrain I am working on

Here's an abandoned partially demolished house I am working on.  The dead tree with be mounted in the yard and the burnt timbers (to the right) will be scattered about inside.

This is an objective marker I am working on.  When done it'll be oozing green goop.  Very Nurglish or perhaps Tyranidish.

Pretty plain right now

Dry brushed on another layer of paint around the meteor and added green goo to the cracks
Added goo spilling from the cracks with a mix of paint, glue and a dark green wash

More on this later

Basing my Ultramarines

Did some work tonight basing my Ultramarines.  About 80% of my minis are plain base but I'm working on changing that one squad at a time.

Plain based Spacemarines

Step 1

For step one I always use a cheap aluminum baking pan I picked up for $2.  I lay that out with my basing sand handy.  In this case I had it in an old water bottle to hold some fine sand I picked up after a windy day.

Step 2

Step two, I add a thin layer of white glue.  It helps to have a small stiff bristled brush to spread the glue around so that it covers the base completely.  Sprinkle the sand on it in a thick layer.  I always sort of smoosh it down with a coffee stir stick.  Then set it aside to dry for a couple hours.

Drying time

Step 3 dollop of glue and rock(s)

When dry, I add a dollop of glue and add a rock or two.  I try to be random when placing the rocks.

Rock added
Once done I set the mini aside and wait for another couple hours for THAT glue to dry.

Step 4 Washes

After the glue has dried, I take a watered down wash (usually black but brown works too) and apply it to the sand and rocks with a brush.  Since the washes are watery I let every thing sit over night to dry fully before adding flock or grass.  Some folks also paint and then drybrush a lighter shade but washes work for me.  If it's too dark tomorrow I will drybrush.

More later.
